Did anyone else see Mad Queen Daenerys and immediately think of Adrian Veidt? probably not but hear me out
This is how I know that the kind of story they probably thought they were telling with s8 Dany could maybe work with like even a second’s worth of thought and effort put into it, I’ve seen it done well with Adrian (in two mediums where he’s played in vastly different ways). It’s not what I would’ve ever wanted for this character, but as a story arc it CAN work in isolation.
But it definitely couldn’t have worked in the time they allotted, and certainly not with the same character they spent 7.5 seasons framing as a straightforward Strong Heroine with what appeared (to me and most of the audience, based on the response this ending has gotten) to be fully unironic messianic overtones and pushing as the closest this show had to a real protagonist (which is decidedly NOT what was done with Adrian, nor with other characters I keep seeing Dany compared to like Morgana and Azula)
and that’s without getting into the ableism of turning Dany into a “Mad Queen” via her Suddenly Snapping
I got to thinking about the 1989 Batman movie and I’m honestly not sure whether or not I would’ve preferred having Joe Chill become The Joker over them inventing Jack Napier, Wayne Murderer out of wholecloth
I’ve seen people complain about kylux shippers justifying themselves by saying they “prefer dark ships” but like. literally the only reason I ship these two is by process of elimination because I think Kylo is an interesting character and Hux is the only direct interaction he has with someone who’s not 1) tortured by him at some point 2) the man who’s been grooming him since childhood or 3) his literal actual parents
the weird thing about liking kylo ren for me is that for three years i’ve been reading all these wildly different and often mutually exclusive analyses of him and in all that there have been like maybe two that match up with how i see him
but i can’t offer up my own meta as an alternative bc i’m not even entirely sure how to put the way i see him into Real Words
I made this so it’ll be easier to drag my friends into sparkly musical hell.
