To expand on the thought from this post, I guess it could be argued that an alternative ship to Kylux could be Kylo/Phasma, especially since the part of the fandom that objects so strongly to Kylux on the grounds of "they're fascists!!1!" doesn't seem to take the same issue with Phasma (or Anakin, for that matter, but that's its own rant). BUT the thing is that Phasma has even less of an established dynamic with Kylo than Hux does (which is frankly impressive tbh)
The only other Kylo ship that I could maybe see myself getting into is Darkpilot, since Poe's sass is always an enjoyable ingredient to any ship. I'm also hesitantly curious about Reylo, but mostly just as a spite-ship in response to all the pushback.

Even if they're revealed to not be related in anyway there's still that general sibling feel to it.
Darkpilot would be a fun ship if they were able to explore their interactions a bit more.

Date: 2018-12-29 06:11 pm (UTC)Yeah, I mean I don't think I ever really thought Rey would end up being a Secret Skywalker (though I like the newer, less popular theory that her mom is Qi'ra, despite how Tired I am of the fandom trying to proclaim her the daughter of everyone with brown hair), but it's widely accepted enough that there's a weirdness to it. Then again most of my fascination with Reylo is in how it reminds me of the things I shipped in middle school when I was first getting into fandom (namely Joker/Rachel)
Darkpilot is mostly aesthetic reasons, but it's also for the same reason (outside of process of elimination) that I like Kylux: Poe isn't intimidated by Kylo and doesn't hesitate to let him know, which is always fun.
(Also sorry for the lateness, illness happened xD)

Date: 2019-01-04 04:42 pm (UTC)I'm a big multi-shipper so I really like examining characters through different kids of pairings and dynamics. Kylo is a little harder to do this with as out of all the characters in the Sequel Trilogy he's the one whose been expanded upon the least in companion works like books and comics because his arc is so tied to the main storyline of the movies (Rey and Finn also have this problem but to a lesser degree.)

Date: 2019-01-04 07:16 pm (UTC)I admit I'm pretty fond of Finn/Kylo for the parallels and how they mirror each other and all that symbolic jazz. I know there are some great Tumblr posts that discuss their dynamic... now I'm tempted to dig them up.
I can't tell whether I genuinely ship Reylo or if it's just spite-shipping. I feel like I only like one specific interpretation of their relationship (the one where they're both disasters but Kylo is more of one). Otherwise my reaction ranges from 'meh' to 'NOO'.
I really think Kylux grew to prominence because 1) rival-shipping + slash are always popular, and 2) shipping in the Star Wars fandom is such a disaster that if you shipped Kylo with a 'good' character you got yelled it. So, like you said in your last post, kind of process of elimination.
